Skitouring Arlberg: Kreuzjochspitz

05.02.2011

Although it’s still February it already feels like spring time here in St.Anton. Skinning up in t-shirt and open pants in the sun is great fun. The good thing is, that it’s possible to ski some really cool steep stuff...

Today we decided to hike up to the top of Kreuzjoch and ski a great run down to Pettneu passing by the Malfon-valley.
Starting from the top station of Riffl II in the Rendl ski area early morning followed by an easy and enjoyable hike we reach the top in quite good conditions.

Especially the view from up there is extremely stunning.

For our ride down we chose a steep and pretty narrow couloir which ends in a big snowfield right underneath the first rocky part. We were super lucky with the conditions and had a great run...especially the run out all the way to Pettneu.

ISPO 2011- Biggest European Wintersport Trade Show

7.2.2011

This years ISPO trade show was crazy as usually. The weather on the mountains was great so I just went there on Sunday, the opening day in Munich. It was a lot to meet all my sponsors on one day and to have a look at plenty of innovations in sports industry.
Right in the morning I had a look to the booth of Zanier Gloves to say hello to Markus, Andrea and the rest of the motivated Zanier guys. They showed some absolutely great gloves they’re gonna produce for 2012.

Next for sure I had to see the Adidas Eyewear booth and meet the people there.
The new Goggles are great as usual. I especially like the great new colors and the collection of the Adidas Eyewear Originals sunglasses...so nice ;-).

The Fischer Ski booth was packed with people interested in their new technologies. Especially people were attracted by the new Vacuum Fit technology. The Watea line 2012 appears with a new design and a big new brother with a width of 120mm in the middle and a little new brother which will be nice for ski touring and allround riding.

Next I explored the new booth of Norrona clothing. They did a really good work in showing their 2012 collection. My favorite is definitely the Norrona-Gore Tex Active Shell Jacket. It so light, you almost can’t feel it while wearing it.

Passing by the EFX booth I met some great people as Alex Hasch, Florian Lachauer and the SOFAMOVIELAB-Crew J.

My next stop was the booth from the great brand Riggler Grownupstuff- made in the Alps. Chet out their webpage at www.riggler.eu and find your favorite headwear! It was great to see that they still have so many great ideas for new stylish beanies and headbands.

Well yeah I did not mention one of the most interesting innovations yet…the new avalanche tranceiver Pieps Vector. This is an innovative product including a bunch of amazing new features. The Pieps booth had som many great products to explore at ISPO 2011…check out the shops next winter for their new innovative products.

All in all it was a perfect day meeting so many people I haven’t met for a while and exploring new products.

Thanks to my sponsors and partners for the great support!

Stimorol Engadin Snow 2011

The weatherforecast looked great and the snow conditions were not really bad either. So I was looking forward to drive to St.Moritz/ Engadin to ride the Engadin Snow Big Mountain competition.
I managed to get up the mountain and have a look at the face the day before the comp...it was great to have a picture in mind before going to bed ;-).

The weather of the competition day coudn’t have been any better...bluebird, sun and cold as ice. I was pretty sure about my the line I have chosen and started an easy hike to the top.

And again, as usually, I was super nervous at the start. Finally I enjoyed riding my line...stomped a small drop right after the start, took the right traverse through some cliffs and skied fluent the line I have chosen, including another drop in the middle of the face, all the way to my final jump.

There I hasitated and lost a lot of speed. Still I decided to take the drop and landed a bit to much forward, I guess. I lost my ski and with it all the points of my run ;-(.

my line...

Finally I was happy to ski the line I have chosen in a fluent way, although I ended up as „did not finish“ in the ranking ;-). Next time I am going to keep my skis on!

What a perfect Day!

6.11.2010

What a perfect day at Wildspitz!

Ready for exploring the possibilities at this time of the year Ruth, Flo, Helli and me hiked up high to reach the beautiful white snow on the glacier.

Starting early in the morning we met many race teams queuing at the train to get up to the well-groomed slopes. Passing this mass of skiers and traversing out toward the glacier we were suddenly all on our own and enjoyed the quiet morning on the glacier.

On the hike up we soon realized, that the crevasses are not well covered with snow yet and we had to be careful to choose a proper line.
The higher we got the more we came out of the shade and enjoyed beautiful sunrays and an amazing view throughout the Austrian alps. On our way up we realized already that it’s going to be a great ride down due to nice powder conditions.

Even hiking up the last part along the ridge to reach the summit of Wildspitz was in perfect snow conditions and an enjoyable to climb wearing crampons.

We enjoyed the view from the summit all by ourselves and found a windless and sunny place to relax for a while.

On our ride down we still had to take care about the crevasses but skied some turns in perfect powder conditions…

oh yeah… an amazing day in the mountains with good friends.
Am ready for winter now!

Catch' ya on the mountains,

Summertime 2010

Yes, summer 2010 was definitely great! I had a lot of time to discover the beauty of Austria. I spent many days climbing, hiking and biking around Innsbruck and some more places in the tyrolean mountains, swimming in beautiful lake Wörthersee in Carinthia and kitesurfing or windsurfing at cold mountain lake Achensee.

In July we enjoyed the great hike to the peak of Serles, one of the mountains we look at from the terrace of our appartment in Innsbruck.

Then in August it started snowing again and I was really surprised how great the conditions at the glacier in Hintertux were. So in the middle of the summer Eva Walkner and me skied some powder in the morning and enjoyed to ride in beatiful weather. It was a great feeling to be back on skies.

Meanwhile I travelled a lot to lake Garda in Italy. Just about two hours drive from Innsbruck and you get the feeling of being far away somewhere in the south. The small villages Torbole and Malcesine are well known for windsurfing, kitesurfing and for sure for climbing and mountainbiking.
After three days at Lago di Garda I almost needed a week off ;-)...I loved the time we spent there usually with good friends...kitesurfing from 6:30 to 9:30 in the morning, afterwards a great cappucino and italian breakfast, then biking or climbing and in the afternoon windsurfing... oh yes, after a day like that we earned a pizza and some italian red wine from our favourite pizzeria Al Porto!
And for sure after a great dinner we had to have an italian ice cream from the best place in Torbole and a drink at Winds Bar ;-)...life's great!

In June we met Robbie Naish in Torbole... he is absolutely a legend!

See ya next year at Lago di Garda!

Adidas Eyewear factory visit

15.06.2010

In June skiers Jochen Reiser, Marja Persson, Alois Bickel, Tobi Trischer and me were invited to the headquarters of Adidas Eyewear in Austria. There we met as well pro mountainbiker from New Zealand Kelly MacGarry.
It was amazing to get a tour through the various production sites of sunglasses, optical glasses and for sure goggles. I was really impressed by the way glasses are cut, and the various materials are handled and put together.

Many thanks to the Adidas Eyewear crew and for the impressive tour!

Further we got the possibility to order a pair of optical glasses. There are way too many different styles to choose from and all of them look great.

And yes, I found the right ones...check out my new optical Adidas Eyewear glasses...I love them!
